A Shirt for Sharon

Here is a short little article I wrote on the spot. Enjoy:))

On a dark, stormy night, a woman left a baby on the doorstep of an orphanage in Hungary. The woman could not afford the baby's needs. She rang the doorbell and left in despair, her head down. The woman running the orphanage rushed to the door. To her surprise, the woman had already gone. All the woman could hear was the pitter-pat of the rain...and a baby's cry. She was heart-broken. She picked the baby up and ran into the old orphanage that was struggling to hold together.

It was thirteen years after that day when a girl named Taylor was on her way to school. (This was in an entirely different country-Unites States to be exact.) She walked into the school knowing nothing about what would happen that day. As Taylor sat down in Geography class, her teacher was passing out notes. She received hers and she read it. "Donate A Shirt" is what it said on the front. The teacher explained the note. "Get your parents to sign and bring any shirt from home and we will mail it to a needy person."

Taylor went home that day, rushed straight to her closet, and pulled out an old T-Shirt with her face on it. "They'll love to see who gave them the shirt!" she said signing her name onto the shirt. Then she realized she was being conceated. She decided that instead of sending the shirt to a needy person, she would go to the person and give it to them. Of course, she didn't know how she would do that, so she went online and searched for people she could send it to. There were thousands of results. She finally came to the end of the list, where she saw the words "Pilman's Orphanage." It's all the way in Hungary, Taylor thought. "679 Nilliard Street." She closed the window and went back to her room. She grabbed three suitcases out of her closet and packed them with clothes without even asking her parents for permission.

Back at the orphange, the woman who was running it was on her cot-ill. She coughed and coughed, so did many of the orphans. One boy was cooking dinner in their poorly made oven. To their despair, it set the orphanage ablaze. Fortunately, everyone survived. Except for poor old Ms. Clark. The woman who had been running the orphanage for the past 35 years. The orphans stared at the pile of ash. They were cold, hungry, and poor. They had nowhere to go.

Taylor eventually told her parents and they agreed to let her go. She finished packing and bought a plane ticket. She got onto the plane and was headed for Hungary. Little did she know that the orphanage had burned down.

The plane landed in Hungary the next morning. She took a cab to where the orphanage used to be. As Taylor got out of the cab, the orphans just laying there looked up at her. She looked at them. She was heart-broken. She looked around at them. They were all together in a huddle. She unlocked her suitcase and pulled out some food and handed each person some food. they thanked her and she turned back around to the cab. As Taylor took her first steps toward the cab, she heard a voice. "C-c-could I get some?" Taylor turned around and looked to see who said it. "O-o-over h-h-here..." She turned to see a girl about her age, with a very pale face, shivering as much as one person can. Taylor rushed over to her and wrapped her arms around her tight. "I am so sorry..." she whispered into the girl's ear. She reached into her suitcase and pulled out a blanket to wrap around the girl's shoulder. "I-I-I..." The girl shivers. "I'm Sharon...who are y-y-you?" "I am Taylor," she answers. "At your service." Sharon smiled.

The two girls continued to talk, Taylor feeding Sharon and keeping her company. After getting to know her, Taylor realized she was forgetting something. She dug through her suitcase and found a T-Shirt with her face on it. "Sharon...I don't know if you wold want this or not but..." she handed the T-Shirt to Sharon. Sharon wrapped her arms around Taylor in a tight hug. She couldn't help but cry. "Thank you.."she whispered. "Sharon, you are a great person and I know you'll go far. It was great being here with you, but I have to go." Taylor wiped away her tears and handed Sharon some money. Sharon watched as Taylor walked away. After that day, Taylor was never as selfish. She became a very kind young woman.

In the end, Sharon married a rich but thoughtful man and lived a very luxurious life. She had lots of clothes made of the finest fabrics, but in the back of her wardrobe, the T-Shirt was still there and she never forgot Taylor.
